Open AFS
Connecting to RAL AFS in Windows 7 |

- Open a Windows Explorer and click on "Computer" on the left, then "Map network drive" at the top.
- Select a drive letter and for the folder, type in (assuming your user name is mmouse): "\\afs\rl.ac.uk\user\m\mmouse\".
- Click "Finish".
- To actually do anything you need to log in. Start a Windows command prompt session (Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt) and enter "klog mmouse". Enter your AFS password when prompted.

- Install OpenAFS
- To obtain a new AFS token you need to log in. Start a Windows command prompt session (Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt) and enter "klog -prin <username> -cell rl.ac.uk". Enter your AFS password when prompted.
- To map the network drive, right-click on Computer in the Start menu and select "Map Network drive...". Select a drive letter for the folder and enter \\AFS\rl.ac.uk\user\<surname initial>\<surname>
- Click "Finish", you can now browse your directory

- AFS client authentication to CERN requires the following software to be installed on your desktop/ laptop:
- OpenAFS
- Heimdal (Implementation of Kerberos v5)
- The kerberos configuration file is applied via group policies, which means it has to be deleted before Heimdal can be installed (C:\ProgramData), otherwise the installer will fail.
- The configuration file contains all the settings including the default cell (CERN.CH), used for obtaining tokens via the Windows AFS client.
- The configuration file is available below.
- To obtain a new AFS token open the AFS Client and right-click Obtain New Tokens, you can then enter your AFS Username and Password in the popup box.
- To map the network drive, right-click on Computer in the Start menu and select "Map Network drive...". Select a drive letter for the folder and enter \\AFS\cern.ch\user\<surname initial>\<surname>
- Click "Finish", you can now browse your directory

- Make sure the AFS Loopback adapter is enabled, otherwhise Open AFS won't work at all. You can find it in the network settings with other network adapters.
