Open AFS

Connecting to RAL AFS in Windows 7

  • Open a Windows Explorer and click on "Computer" on the left, then "Map network drive" at the top.
  • Select a drive letter and for the folder, type in (assuming your user name is mmouse): "\\afs\rl.ac.uk\user\m\mmouse\".
  • Click "Finish".
  • To actually do anything you need to log in. Start a Windows command prompt session (Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt) and enter "klog mmouse". Enter your AFS password when prompted.

Known issues:

This section was created because of some certain issues with Open AFS, mainly hanging PC on the Windows logon screen or problems with getting a token.

  • Make sure the AFS Loopback adapter is enabled, otherwhise Open AFS won't work at all. You can find it in the network settings with other network adapters.
  • To stop seeing error messages while loging to Windows download and run two registry files from this topic (see attachment)
