Virtual Private Network: PPTP

You can connect to the site network via the PPTP virtual private network. Your computer will then behave mostly as if it was physically connected to the RAL network. If you are familiar with setting this up, you just need to know your federal ID and password plus the service address: vpn.rl.stfc.ac.uk. If you need more help, howto documentation is maintained elsewhere: please email the PPD IT Helpdesk requesting the Offsite Access howto if you need it.

SSH Bastion Access - DEPRECIATED, see PPDBastionHost for more up to date information

An ssh bastion is operated for the site as a whole, and allows you to connect via ssh (using a command line client, PuTTY, etc) and then connect onwards to one of our Linux servers (e.g. linux.pp.rl.ac.uk). We do not control this service, but we can arrange for an account to be set up for you. Please make the request by emailing the PPD IT Helpdesk.
