Contributor initial comment Things not under PPD IT control: network reliability, proxy restrictions, limited wireless coverage to offices, restrictions on public web pages.
PPD IT forum open discussion After a brief discussion with members of the PPD Computer Group, it was decided that issues relating to STFC IT can be debated here and once actions have been agreed the relevant PPD Computer Group member will feed these actions back to the relevant STFC IT committee. So can you please indicate precisely issues you are having with STFC IT. Saying network reliability is too vague

Contributor initial comment More vocal in STFC computing meetings to defend the need for using non-IE browsers while accessing various internal STFC websites.

PPD IT forum open discussion STFC business web browser is IE and can be access via all Windows desktop and laptops. User who do not have access to a personal Windows desktop or Laptop, can access IE via the terminal server. I know that FireFox and Chrome are used on Windows desktops and laptops in the department and users haven’t reported compatibility issues
What browsers would you like supported? Safari, Firefox, Chrome?
What internal STFC’s are affected by this?
I attend ITSDG (IT Service Delivery Group) where I always defend PPD, however ITSDG gets implementation of IT policy from ITOB (IT Operations Board). There is two ways communication, between ITDG and ITOB, however my impact is limited. PPD’s ITOB reps may be better placed to ensure non-IE browsers are supported for internal STFC websites.
Non-IE browsers will become more prominent with the increasing diversity of devices used to browse the web, particularly the increasing number of tablet devices.
Possible action Ask PPD ITOB rep quote my last comments above and “bring your own devices” policy
